Following my reddit post on my "new" amd 486 dx4 100 that ended up getting lots of reactions, i decided to do a video on this computer. i want to go over its gorgeous mini tower case, the components and the amd dx4 100mhz cpu on my channel i've done some research on the amd dx4 100.

486 Dx4 100mhz R Retrobattlestations It originally had a 486 33, then a dx4 100, then finally a slocket and 1.2 ghz celeron. this board has 3 memory slots and would take up to 256 mb simms, and after some horsetrading and such i maxed it out with 768 mb. Cyrix 5x86 100mhz is the fastest of the bunch especially if you enable 6x86 instructions. then there's the amd 5x86 133 p75 these can be overclocked to 160 mhz on some motherboards then there's the 100mhz intel and amd dx4 cpus. The 5x86 was probably more common than the dx4 100, and certainly the 120. it had a very long life as the last 486 mainboards were pushed through the channel. I went with vlb (i mean it has to be a 486 for the challenge, so why not use vlb and do it right, right?)! my build used an ark1000vl, the fastest vlb card in dos, and a very late model intel dx4 100 from 2007! for a motherboard, i went a little unconventional, using a qdi v4p895grn smt1.0 motherboard with the awesome opti895 chipset!.

Upgraded the 486 dx2 66mhz to a 486 dx4 overdrive 100mhz (althought no matter my jumper settings it's showing 80 mhz on post screen even changing fsb to 40mhz). i've upgraded the ram to 24mb (board seems very picky about ram and largest stick has to be in the sim4 slot). i added a brand new 540mb western digital hdd that's never been used. Want to build an 486 dx4 100mhz retro gaming pc. where can i get the parts? this was my first pc in 94. would like to play the same games, with the same hardware. where can i buy the cpu and motherboard? and parhps also a case, sound blaster 16, and svga card? archived post. new comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast.
