The Modern Choice Barndominum Vs Traditional Home Guys my first post was about just metal barndominium,but during my research i find pole barn homes. what is the advantage of one over the other,i am guessing one is cheaper vs the other? we do get high winds which could reach over 100mph and the metal bldgs that i have look at is rated for. A barndominium? i see an architect and maybe even an engineer in your future. the further you go from cookie cutter home, the harder it's going to be get a loan insurance 'can' be an issue depends sometimes on availability of firemen being able to get to your place, at any time they need to be. live down a rutted mud road, doubtful.

Some people use the term barndominium. whatever you may call it, my dad is going to build it. he will have it built on a concrete slab with a crawl space. he has a buddy that will build the shell for around $12k and he plans to finish out the inside as if it were a regular standard home including all of the amenities that a regular home has. We built a separate framed structure in our barndominium for the same reason your builder suggested it. we have 1 1 2 inch closed cell foam inside the metal building and it was done before we started framing. I posted this in the general questions forum before finding this, more appropriate forum. i am looking for tips and suggestions from anyone that has built living quarters within a metal building. hubby and i have decided we want to get out on our land asap and this route would be the quickest.
