Lookouts邃 Short Film Making this film was an opportunity to play with creature design, costumes, weapons, exotic settings and fantasy themes that aren’t exactly common in our commercial production lives. more than anything, this project gave us the opportunity to explore longer format storytelling techniques and new stylized looks for the visuals. Lookouts short film this short film is our first exploration into classic narrative filmmaking and it was an absolute joy to create. it’s based on a popular webcomic created by penny arcade®. lookouts™ gave us an opportunity to explore new storytelling techniques as well as play with gear and tools in a format outside of advertising.
Lookouts邃 Short Film Very often, short films that venture into the world of fantastical creatures often leave disappointed with their efforts and audience reactions. however, it is my pleasure to report that lookouts is an immensely entertaining and visually stunning piece of cinema. Three years ago two ambitious filmmakers asked to adapt penny arcade's lookouts into a live action short. the result of their labors goes far beyond what could. Lookouts was brought to life by director david bousquet and producer kristin bousquet, who were inspired by the fantasy films of their youth, as well as the iconic creature effects work of the legendary jim henson. the filmmaker's devotion paid off because this film is among the most gorgeous fantasy shorts i've ever seen so far. In total, “lookouts” very much stands as an engaging, magical, first rate journey to yesteryear’s filmmaking style and execution, which this reviewer certainly relates to, and that leaves you hoping beyond hope that a full length project might just manage to find its way to the screen and our highly anticipating eyes.
