Moving Time And Average Speed R Strava I believe it calculates pace from moving time (when your watch is running and not stopped paused) and distance. however, the distance it uses is the total distance covered, so say you ran 100m and then stopped the watch and walked 100m then started your watch again, strava would record the pace as twice as fast as it thinks you've covered 200m in your 100m time. Why does my activity's average speed on strava differ from my gps device? strava will use the recorded gps data when uploading rides to calculate our version of your moving time.

Garmin records a speed of 25km hr on say a 100km ride, but when i upload that exact same ride onto strava through my garmin edge 520 and garmin connect, strava converts the speed to 24.5km hr with an increased moving time… the discrepancy is even more severe with the garmin than with the apple watch.
